Oh HEYLOH there.
I almost forgot that a few weeks back, an anonymous sent me a question asking whether I've cried while listening to a song(s). Ask me that five years ago I would probably say 'Ow hell to the naw'. Ask me today and I'll nod up and down so hard, the bobble head toy people put on their dashboard car has a serious competition. Wait they don't really nod but they.. bobble. Oh well I can bobble my head pretty well.
Anyway just to cut this crap short, YES, I've cried. I used to think a song is too short to make me cry. An average song is probably like, 4 minutes? There's not enough storyline to do so.
Boy was I wrong.
I'd like to blame everything on 'hormones', (I don't know why when I say 'hormones' some people would laugh, but hey at least I can be funny... sort of.) but really, some songs are just so damn relatable to your life at that moment and you just can't help but feel overwhelmed by it all. Well at least I do. That feeling you get when you feel as if that song was written especially for you, of how you feel. Man I love songs like that.
If you thought I'm going to start listing down all Taylor Swift song titles here when I mention 'relatable' songs, you were wrong. Yes her songs have made me cry, yes her songs are relatable to my life, but there are other songs that sometimes I can't listen to it at all because I know I'd broke down the moment they get to the chorus or before it ends. So whenever it comes up on shuffle, I'll skip. It was that painful to hear.
So here are songs that have made me cry. Note that 'crying' can mean that I sobbed, or just my eyes pooled with tears but it didn't fell, or crying-so-hard-you're-shaking-and-your-lips-trembling kind of crying. And no I've never had my heart ~*~*broken*~*~ that bad so none of these songs are about that bastard who cheated on me or anything like that.
1) Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word - Blue ft. Elton John
"What do I do when lightning strikes me, and I wake to find you're not there."
I believe this was the very first song that made me cry when I was.. 13? 14? Yeahh it was pretty embarassing. My first crush. Can I just skip explaining this song because this is making me uncomfortable. (AMAZING song nonetheless.)
2) Graduation - Vitamin C
"Will we think about tomorrow like we think about now? Can we survive it out there? Can we make it somehow? I guess I thought that this would never end, and suddenly it's like we're women and men."
I can't even pick a line in that song to highlight because basically ALL of it is true. I used this song in a cd I made for my classmates when I was 15, in form 3. Sigh that was a great year. I miss my friends so much. We were in the same class for 3 years, we were practically family. But the sad truth is? If we all meet tomorrow we'd be practically strangers. Oh the amount of awkwardness that will fill the room! Tsk, tsk.
3) Welcome To My Life - Simple Plan
"To be on the edge of breaking down and no one's there to save you."
Okay you can't be a teenager and not relate to this song. This is basically the,.. soundtrack of every teenager's life. It has the right amount of 'emo-ness' and every. single. line of the song is just so damn true!
4) Go - Boys Like Girls
"Believe the tunnel can end, believe your body can mend. Yeah, I know you can make it through 'cause I believe in you. So let's go put up a fight, let's go make everything all right."
This is on my 'Down' playlist and naturally whenever I'm feeling down I'll just play this song over and over. This is without a doubt my favorite song by them and I would just bawl my eyes out if I ever get to see them live performing this song. I really like the part 'cause I believe in you'. It's just, comforting knowing someone believed in you. ~~Omagaad Anis get over yourself he didn't write that song about you.~~
But that's what a good songwriter does. Feeling like the song is written especially for you and you felt it in your heart. This was one of those songs.
5) Because Of You - Kelly Clarkson
"Because of you I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me."
Um,. This song is pretty personal. Just look at the lyrics or the music video and you'll know what it's about.
6) Long Live - Taylor Swift
"but if god forbid fate should step in and force us into a goodbye; If you have children some day, when they point to the pictures, please tell them my name. Tell them how the crowds went wild. Tell them how I hope they shine."
(Okay I only cried at the part when she song the part above, not the whole song.)
I don't know but when Taylor sang that part in bold, I just lost it. It's just, we took pictures to make that moments last, to look back and dwell on how happy we were when that picture was taken, no matter how miserable we are feeling now. I know no matter how hard we try to hold on to these memories, it'll fade. Friendships grew apart. But if, let's say, my friends have children and somehow found those old Facebook pictures and they ask their parents who those people in the background were, I don't want to be 'just someone at my school.' I get a feeling that names will be forgotten, but I hope they, my friends, never forget the feelings they got when we joked around, when we got punished together for not finishing our homework, when we did that choral speaking in front of the whole school. When we went camping together and it was dark in the night and we hold each other's hands and we won't let go, no matter what happened. I miss that. When we went to Genting together, that freedom of being on (almost) top of the world.
So I hope when somebody asked you who I am, you can say not just my name but all of us in that background. Tell your children how we were once uhm,.. infinite. And fearless :)
7) One Day You Will - Lady Antabellum
"Like no one would even notice if you left this town and never came back."
This song, above all, gave me hope. 'You'll find love, you'll find peace, [...] I know right now that's not the way you feel, but one day you will.' That line is just perfect. I always have bad days now, that sometimes I feel I just want to run and escape from all this,.. shit. But hey maybe one day I will be okay. Not today, probably not tomorrow either, but someday.
8) Get It Right - Rachel Berry (Glee)
"What can you do when your good isn't good enough?"
I listened to this song in the bus, and I cried. I tried to control my tears but every time that line comes on, I just broke down. But nobody notices it. Of course nobody did. I was hoping someone will ask me 'are you alright?' or 'everything's going to be okay' like in the movies but of course that didn't happen. I feel like I can be suicidal sometimes.

If I ever meet any of the singers/songwriters for the songs above, the first thing I'm going to say is, thank you. Thank you for your songs. Thank you for writing that. Thank you for helping me the way nobody can.
So there ya go peeps. This emotional post was brought to you by yours truly. Actually I'm pretty sure there are more songs than the ones above that made me cry but I don't feel like sharing it because it'd be too personal.
I don't know what is it about sad songs that make them so amazing. I guess a really powerful song that can make you cry are those written when the writer was in deep pain, and by letting it all out in a song maybe their pain can be eased. I hope it did for them because that's what they did to me in their songs.
ps; just to throw it out there, yes I do pray to God in hard times, not just listen to all these music.
And to ask me any question or request me to blog about something : http://formspring.me/anisfilza is the place to go.
"Because a song can take you back instantly to a moment, a place, or even a person. No matter what else has changed in you or the world that one song stays the same, just like that moment. Which is pretty amazing, when you actually think about it."
