I hate Raya.

There I said it. I'm not looking forward to Eid at all, unlike a lot of Malaysians who already planned what colour of baju raya they're gonna wear months ago, what colour of curtains they're gonna buy and put up, the carpets, the kuih-raya. And I'll tell you why.

1) The relatives. This is gonna be so awkward if my uncles/aunties/cousins read this. BUT. No it's not THEM I hate, it's (some) of the questions they ask.

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ.
Belajar kat mana sekarang?
What I'll say : INTI College ha ha :)
What I really want to say : INTI College. In fact I'm already in my second year but thanks for asking now not back when I'm about to enroll.

Ambil course apa?
What I'll say : Mass comm.
What I really want to say : American Degree Program.
-I gave up giving 'ADP' as the answer because it will usually be followed by a 'uh wut' expression in which I would have to repeat the answer again because nobody knows much about the ADP program, unlike mass comm where everybody has heard of-

ps; I HATE these questions the most because somehow people (especially Malays.. I guess.. BAM! RACIST STATEMENT) tend to have this mindset that being in a private college means you didn't get a good result for SPM - didn't get any offer from public university - have to resort in going to private college where your parents have to spend a lot of money. (You can see in their face that's obviously what comes to their mind, especially if they're like "Oh..")

Not to brag but I DID get a good result for SPM and I DID get an offer from UiTM but I declined it.

All of my.. cousins or anyone around my age
in my family went into public university and apparently being different means you're not good enough these days? Balderdash.

Dah ada boyfriend? *wink wink*
What I'll say : Hah hah tak ada la..
What I really want to say :
1) Yes I do he's actually in Hollywood where he has two children with his girlfriend but really we're in love and he comes here every other month and we're planning to elope soon. (That's Johnny Depp, in case you didn't get it.)
2) No I don't have a boyfriend FOR MANY YEARS NOW THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME I'M UNATTRACTIVE AND FOREVER ALONE. BYE. *leaves house dramatically*
3) Why does it matter to you if I have a boyfriend or not?

Frequently Heard Statements.
(To my dad) Tak lama lagi dapat la menantu ni ih hik hik
Often I'll just look at my sister because if my dad's getting an in-law anytime soon it's because of my sister, not me bwahahar.
But seriously. Just because we're a young adult now does it mean we have to get married!? REALLY?

And the term 'anak dara'. GOD that should be just removed from Kamus Dewan. Banned from existence.

Dah besaaar dah.
See. This one I'm somewhat confused. I know most of the time what they want to say is we've all grown up, but besar can also means fat! And I am offended by that statement.

I know they're just trying to be polite but I guess this is what happens when you see each other only once a year and you're trying to make awkward situations un-awkward.

"Always the same mindless chatter."

BUT in case my relatives do read this blog post, here are some alternative questions you could ask that I'd be more than happy to answer :

1) Favorite Harry Potter characters/movies/scenes/quotes and why.
2) Favorite Taylor Swift songs of all-time and why.
3) What's your view on gay rights? -(I did a whole portfolio on it last semester and I'm really proud of each essay I wrote and the marks I got!)
4) Books that made you cry the hardest/laugh the loudest?
5) Lol dude idk what to ask but here's some duit raya pergi main jauh-jauh bai

I'd VERY, VERY much prefer option #5. Wink wink nudge nudge.

2) The fact that our family's Raya has not been the same since 2004 (or was it 2005?) - personal reason I really really wish I could blog about. Gah. No it's not because of anyone's death.

You know how they say time heals everything? Utter and complete balderdash as well.

And that 'nothing will change?' HAH HAH. And they'll always be there for you? You can talk to them about anything? HAH. HAH. HAH.

Did not believe that when I was 12, still do not now. Honestly they underestimated what a 12-year-old can think for herself.

Anyway moving on.

3) People don't send kad raya anymore and just send sms-es. I know it works both ways but I don't feel like sending one if I'm just going to receive a freaking sms back as a reply. 'Thanks for kad raya! Sorry la tak sempat nak beli kad raya :( Maaf zahir batin!'.

Don't get me wrong, I still look forward to the delicious food and duit raya (if I still get some..) or even playing mercun. But I don't ANTICIPATE it so much. I'm like "Oh esok raya? Cool" as opposed to "OH MY GOD ESOK RAYA!! YAYYY :D"

Which is a shame, really if I think about it. I used to enjoy raya, I do! Just like any other kids. But.. no it's just not the same. Blah it's just me I know a lot of people still gets psyched the night before Raya no matter how old they are.
