World Cup.

I couldn't believe I'm blogging about this either.

When World Cup first started this year, I couldn't care less. I was one of those people. I didn't even know there will be a World Cup this year.

But of course, as the days went on, I got the World Cup fever! Huhahaha.
It's almost impossible not to get caught up with the frenzy since it's what everyone in the world talks about. For more than a month, football/soccer is the language the world speaks.

I figured there were many reasons why someone chose to support a country. For me, whose country was not even *cough* qualified *sneeze*, I chose to root for England because, I dunno, I supported them in 2006 World Cup. Haha. And then when England was eliminated, I root for Germany because they were really good. 4-0 against Australia, 4-1 against England(should've been 4-2, damn you referee) and 4-0 against Argentina!
NO, I didn't Google that. I remembered it ;P

I know a lot of girls were rooting for Portugal, just because of Cristiano Ronaldo. Same reason for Messi in Argentina, Torres in Spain, etc. And some were probably still supporting England because Bekcham was in it. Couldn't blame them, footballers, IN GENERAL, are hot. HAHAHA.

Of all the 64 matches, I think I've watched about, 4 or 5 matches. When there's nothing interesting on tv I'll just watch the highlights which are available like, 24/7. I was pretty much dumb how this football works.(I know some countries call it soccer, but in my country it's called football so I'm going to call it that :P)
I didn't know about the off-side rules. I didn't know why it should be a corner, free kick or when there'll be a penalty. My brother had to explain it to me. Heh.

You know, since I'm a girl, I don't really look at the 'physical' side of the game. The goals, the fouls, I look at the 'mental' side of it.

That horrible feeling when your opponent is leading and it's almost the 90th minute, and you know it's almost impossible to score a goal.
That frustration when you're thisclose to score but you missed it and the ball hit the pole.
Especially that feeling when you have penalty, which is pretty much a free goal, but couldn't score.
Disappointment. When the whole world is watching, and you're representing your country, and you let them down.

But of course there were also;
The feeling of victory when your team won the game.
Proud that you can score a goal and the hugs from your teammates.
Moving to the quarter-final, semi-final, and the final.
Representing your country wearing that jersey on your back.
Seeing the crowd cheering and supporting you unlike any other.

What a great feeling the Spain players are going to wake up with today.

I love seeing the slow-mos, the montages of all the matches. It's like seeing trailer of a movie ;)
And about the most famous animal on the planet right now, named Paul, well I'm just really curious who first started putting in the containers with flags on it in the aquarium, at the first place. I read one Youtube comment saying : 'I think whoever eats the octopus will inherit his power.' HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Awesome.

People are already looking forward for World Cup 2014. I'll be 22. GASP. I can't even,. Oh wow.

Congratulations to Spain, of course. I'm proud to announce I'm 1/136th Spanish. HAHAHA just kidding.

That's a really nice post! Love the casual supporter/female fan angle ;-)

That was exactly what I was talking about when I wrote my column last week - the World Cup can draw EVERYBODY in.

Maybe you can blog about being a casual supporter watching the English Premier League when it starts? Something about whether you feel the same excitement as you had over the World Cup? Would love to see what your thoughts r on that =)

All the best!
